The Frosch brand acquired its expertise over the long history of the manufacturing company, Werner & Mertz GmbH. The ecological orientation which began with Frosch in 1986 shapes the entire company today. At Werner & Mertz, sustainability management is integrated in all investment decisions and corporate planning.

The company was founded as the wax wares factory "Gebrüder Werner" in Mainz in 1867. In 1878 W. Mertz joined the company, to which his name was added. His brother-in-law Philipp Adam Schneider, soon became the head of the business. Managing partner since 2000, Reinhard Schneider is a member of the fourth generation to lead the family business from its headquarters in Mainz.

The company has grown from the wax wares factory to Erdal shoe polish, over other products for floor care and household cleaning to the Frosch brand whose success story began in 1986. The combination of natural, highly efficient cleaning power with exemplary skin- and environmentally-friendly properties makes Frosch today the successful eco pioneer in cleaning and care.

Expansion in Europe

Expansion in Europe

After successful expansion in Europe, we number about 1,000 employees in total, including beyond European borders. With brands such as Frosch, Erdal, Rorax, Bionicdry, tana and Green Care, Werner & Mertz has become firmly established as an innovative company on the European market. The family-owned business has maintained its headquarters in the Rhineland-Palatinate city of Mainz for more than 150 years.

Erdal GmbH was founded in 1953 as a second production site in Hallein near Salzburg. Over the years the Austrian branch of Werner & Mertz has grown to about 160 employees and has taken on sales responsibility for neighboring countries to the southeast.

Today our Frosch products can be found in nearly every country in Europe, from Portugal in the southwest to Russia in the northeast. As Frosch has become known for its integrally ecological brand promise, demand for products has risen among countries outside of Europe, including Japan, South Korea and the USA.

The success of Werner & Mertz is based on strong brands, qualified and motivated employees and the consistently pursued sustainable orientation at all levels of the entire company.

For us sustainability is not a passing fad, but an established and diligently maintained company tradition.
